Following surgery, physical therapy is essential to regain strength, mobility, flexibility, proprioception, and joint motion while reducing post-surgical pain. It has been shown that physical therapy following surgery improves patient outcomes and promotes faster recovery compared to no use of physical therapy. We can help address your goals and develop a personalized plan to help you reach those goals.
Recovery and healing time is different for each person, we have expertise to facilitate movement and strengthening at a pace that is appropriate and tailored to your needs. At Ability Physical Therapy, we use a variety of techniques including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and neuromuscular re-education (re-training your muscles, nerves, and brain to work together) to recover to a higher level of function. Our therapists stay up-to-date on current research and use it in combination with your surgeon’s protocols to guide our treatment.
In addition to in-clinic therapy, we will provide you with an individualized home exercise program to allow you to maintain your progress even after you leave our office. We are happy to answer any questions or concerns you have along the way and are excited to get you back to activities you love!
For those who have not yet had surgery, physical therapy has also been shown to help manage pain and improve movement deficits that could prolong time before surgery or allow you to avoid it altogether. In addition, new research has proven that preoperative physical therapy can help you achieve better outcomes following surgery and even spend less time in the hospital. With pre-operative care we will focus on functional mobility, maintaining strength, and education on the recovery process.
